Diani Building Corp. proudly partnered with the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) to deliver a state-of-the-art training campus dedicated to preparing canine search teams for real-world disaster response. This highly specialized facility supports the training of dogs and handlers deployed nationwide for urban search and rescue (USAR) missions.
The project included construction of multiple disaster-scenario training environments, designed to replicate conditions encountered during earthquakes, structural collapses, and other emergency events. These elements required complex grading, structural concrete work, and placement of large-scale rubble piles and props, simulating collapsed buildings, confined spaces, and unstable terrain.
Diani’s work also included development of support facilities and infrastructure across the campus, including kennels, training areas, utilities, and site improvements. The project demanded close coordination with SDF trainers and stakeholders to ensure that each training element met realistic operational standards for canine detection and handler performance.
A key component of the project was the precision placement and integration of training props, including buried voids, elevated platforms, and scent-detection zones. These features required careful construction sequencing and durable materials capable of withstanding continuous use in a demanding outdoor environment.
The site’s natural setting introduced additional challenges, requiring environmental sensitivity, erosion control, and careful site development practices to preserve the surrounding landscape while delivering a highly functional training environment.
The completed facility provides a nationally recognized training ground for search and rescue teams, enhancing readiness for disaster response across the United States.
